About Thousand Foot Krutch

Members

Formed in 1997 in Peterborough, Ontario, this Canadian group has released six albums and enjoyed growing success. Frontman Trevor McNevan (vocals and guitar) originally founded Thousand Foot Krutch (often referred to as TFK for short), along with original guitarist Dave Smith. Today the band includes McNevan, Joel Bruyere on bass, Jamie Aplino on guitar, and Steve Augustine on drums.

Sound

The band released their initial album independently, but later signed with Tooth and Nail Records, and is currently with that label after several successful albums. Although the band is typically categorized as a Christian rock or hard rock band, their entourage of sounds have also had them categorized in punk, hip-hop, nu metal, alternative rock, and pop-rock.

The band easily declares their Christian faith, but they also wants to create music that a broad and diverse group of people can relate to. For this reason, their songs stay away from religious terminology, although there are clearly references to faith and God in many of them. According to lead singer Trevor McNevan, "We talk about life, the things we go through, and things we feel need to be said" -- but the reference their faith in a way that doesn't try to push or intimidate people who feel differently than they do. The band is highly visible, with some two hundred play dates annually, and have also appealed to mainstream venues in addition to their success in the Christian music market. Thousand Foot Krutch was received several honors from the Canadian Gospel Music Association's Covenant Awards, including Best video of the Year (Move), Album of the Year, Group of the Year, and Modern Rock Album of the Year (The Art of Breaking). The band was consistently among the top 12 most requested artists from 2001 on according to ChristianRock.net and was nominated for Best Christian/ Gospel Album of the Year in 2005 and 2006. Their 2003 release "Phenomon" was among Tooth and Nails top-selling albums with over 100,000 units sold, and accompanying the CD's success was the single "Rawkfist" which was a top radio hit. The single "Move" of the 2005 album "The Art of Breaking" achieved number 16 the Billboard charts. In addition, TFK has airplay on MTV Radio and the National Football League and Major League Baseball broadcasts.

McNevan and Augustine also have a side-project band called FM Static that has been met with success, and McNevan is credited with discovering the popular Christian/Mainstream punk-pop-rock band Hawk Nelson.

Fanning the Flame

Their latest album, "The Flame in All of Us" offers a unique mix that deviates slightly from the band's harder style with more of a pop-rock blend. With a more honed, mature sound, McNevans' catchy signature vocals, and contrasting songs that deal with a range of subject matter -- from dealing with addiction in a relationship, to the aftermath of widespread global issues, to the process of accepting one's own shortcomings, "The Flame in All of Us" offers a new direction for TFK. The album has received excellent reviews and offers a sound that will appeal to a variety of listeners.
