Plain White Ts

From LoveToKnow Music

The Plain White T’s have something going on. A fresh sound with provocative influences that does not beg the listener to pay attention makes this band something to look out for in the not too distant future.

The Plain White T’s Are:

After having been together for more than 10 years now, the current line up of the Plain White T’s is solid and well-rounded. Band mates say that this is the way things are going to look for a while and today’s lineup represents a group of guys that is clearly well loved by fans that have been loyal since the very beginning.

  • Tom Higgenson – vocals
  • Tim Lopez – guitar, vocals
  • Dave Tirio – guitar
  • Mike Retondo – bass, vocals
  • De’Mar Hamilton – drums

Sounds Like

This is definitely an Emo sound, but there are hints of folkiness, especially in numbers like “Hey There Delilah” – this is a slow, soft, meaningful love song that models itself after styles of the past but discusses issues of the Millenial generation. It is easy to hear influences of:

  • Dashboard Confessionals
  • The Get Up Kids
  • The Old 97s
  • Wilco

While the Plain White T’s are clearly influenced by these and other contemporary bands, they do very much have a sound of their own which is melancholic, sentimental, thoughtful and well executed. This is a clean and honest kind of music that offers a soundtrack to what it is like to be young, to be confused, to perhaps be facing what may be true love for the first time while simultaneously trying to figure out where life will try to take you – with or without your permission.

Touring and Released Albums

The Plain White T’s have released four albums in music stores and tour regularly. Their current tour of the UK, Germany and the West Coast can be tracked through MySpace as well as the band’s official Web site.

The Songs on the MySpace Page

This is one of the most Popular Myspace Music Pagesto date. The songs on the band’s current page are a varied sampling from four completely different albums. The songs include:

  1. Friends Don’t Let Friends Dial Drunk (from “Every Second Counts”)
  2. Hey There Delilah (from “All That We Needed”)
  3. Shine (from the “Stop” album)
  4. Hate I really Don’t Like You (from “Every Second Counts”)

While each of these songs represents a different era in the life of the T’s, all four offer a different sort of “je ne se quoi” – essentially, every one of these tunes has the kind of character that if played frequently enough could make your life seem a little like a movie. The song “Friends Don’t Let Friends Dial Drunk” gives a hard and rebellious style that may well accompany moments with friends who are discussing “good ol’ what’s her name” while a tune like “Hey There Delilah” offers the listener a kind of solitary nostalgia that may go along with writing a love letter to a distant girlfriend. All in all, the music has what it takes to go straight to your head – it is wickedly catchy and meaningful to boot – not a combination music listeners experience every day. The sound of the Plain White T’s is both individual and inspired enough to influence others. It is punky and poppy, folky and thoughtful, and at times funny and full of passion that is clearly driven by something that does not quite feel like sadness and that is not quite hardcore enough to be called rage. For what it is, which is essentially Emo or perhaps Emo-core, this music is much more mature and well-written than the music of other contemporaries. Look for the T’s on MySpace and in your own backyard – this is not a show you will want to miss. You can check out music videos of the tunes on the Myspace page too!

The Every Second Counts Tour

The T’s are headed through the United States in April and May of 2007. You can catch them in your hometown. Have a look at the tour dates on their MySpace page today. Updates and changes in the schedule are posted regularly. Additionally, the band has its own “fans only” MySpace page. Visit the Plain White T’s Fans today for details.
