O Brother Where Art Thou Soundtrack
From LoveToKnow Music
The O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack was a surprise hit for everyone involved. The soundtrack, which features a collection of old American bluegrass and folk classics plus new tracks penned by some of bluegrass music's biggest stars, went to number one on the charts. It revived mainstream interest in what had become a very under the radar subgenre of music: bluegrass.
About the O Brother Where Art Thou Soundtrack
The movie O Brother, Where Art Thou, which is a Coen Brothers creation, was set in Depression era Mississippi and told the story of three escaped convicts who managed to develop a music career while on the lam. Music plays a very important role in the film. The escapees formed a group called the Soggy Bottom Boys and became famous for their song Man of Constant Sorrow. A major backdrop to the story of the film was the burgeoning music and radio industry of the time.
The majority of the music in the film is old songs from the era re-recorded by modern artists, though there are a few original recordings used (such as Big Rock Candy Mountain by Harry McClintock). There are also a few new original tracks penned by Alison Krauss and her fellow Union Station member Dan Tyminski. Tyminski also sang Man of Constant Sorrow – it is his voice heard when George Clooney performs the track in the film.
