Naked Brothers Band
From LoveToKnow Music
TV musicians with real life talent, The Naked Brothers Band is both a band and the name of a popular Nickelodeon program. Second perhaps only to tweenage heart throbs The Jonas Brothers, The Naked Brothers Band is a favorite with young fans.
About The Naked Brothers Band
The TV show Naked Brothers Band actually started with a 2005 movie, called The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie. The film was originally a low budget, independent release, but movie festival buzz attracted attention from Nickelodeon, who eventually bought into the film and gave it a major release. The movie was a huge box office success, and Nickelodeon decided to adapt the film into a TV show – also called The Naked Brothers Band – which premiered in February 2007. The show was an immediate hit, and its third season is due to start in 2009. It also spawned two made for TV movies, Sidekicks and Polar Bears.
Of course, kids’ TV shows that focus on the lives of young musicians is nothing new – you don’t need to look much further than Hannah Montana to know that the idea is frequently a winner. However, The Naked Brothers Band has a difference in its approach. The show is filmed in documentary style and plays like a reality TV show rather than scripted sitcom. The actors communicate directly with the cameras as though a film crew were following them around as they tour, rehearse and more.
There is one thing, however, that The Naked Brothers Band show shares with some other shows based on child musicians – the show is a real family affair. The brothers in the band, Nat and Alex, are real life brothers Nat and Alex Wolff, and the show was created and written by their parents. Their father, award winning musician Michael Wolff, appears on the show as the boys’ father who is desperate to be in the band with them, and their mother, Polly Draper, directs most of the episodes.
Notably, Nat Wolff, 14 years old in 2008, writes all of the music for the show. The band from the show also performs live away from the cameras as a “real life” band.
