About Soundtracks

Some soundtracks are little more than the original score of the movie and barely make a splash in the sales figures. Other soundtracks, however, are classic albums. Soundtracks often do well in sales for two reasons: either the movie was so popular that people buy the soundtrack simply because they love the film or because the soundtrack plays like a great mix tape. Soundtracks usually feature music that is either rooted in a particular time or rooted in a particular genre of music, so they often serve as great introductions to new artists and musical styles.

Listen to Soundtracks – Where to Go

Ready to check out some of your favorite soundtracks and discover new ones? The following websites are great places to start your search:

  • Movieweb – With a name like Movieweb, you know they know their movie music. Although this website doesn’t allow you to select the specific soundtrack that you want to hear, they do have three internet radio stations based around soundtracks. One station plays action and adventure movie soundtracks, one plays horror and thriller movie soundtracks and the other plays all movie scores. For movie buffs, it’s fun to just let the stations play and see what comes up next.
  • Live 365 – Internet radio company Live 365 plays host to a wide range of radio programs devoted to soundtracks. There are many more choices here than on Movieweb, so if you have very specific tastes, you can find a station that caters to you, from Disney soundtracks to original scores to 80s movies.
  • Rhapsody – On Rhapsody, you can search for the specific soundtrack you want and stream it online. Although the selection is great, there is a catch. You have to join Rhapsody and pay a monthly subscription fee after you have used up your 22 free plays.
  • Soundtrack Collector – Soundtrack Collector is certainly not the most aesthetically pleasing or user friendly website out there, but it makes up for it by being destination number one online for soundtrack enthusiasts. If you really want to learn about soundtracks – and not just the most obvious ones – this is the place for you. You can listen to the soundtracks, learn all about them and chat online with your fellow soundtrack lovers.
  • AOL – AOL Radio has lots of streaming options for soundtracks, including scores, original tracks and other soundtrack tunes.
