Lifehouse First Time

From LoveToKnow Music

The Lifehouse First Time song is one of the popular tracks on the pop/rock band's 2007 realease of Who We Are.

About Lifehouse

The Band

The success of the band Lifehouse revved up with their hit single Hanging by a Moment off their 2000 debut album No Name Face. The song was one of the most played songs on the radio that year. The song also received a Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year, and helped pave the way for future hits. In addition to No Name Face, other past albums include Stanley Climbfall (2002), Lifehouse (2005), and Who We Are (2005). Band members include lead vocalist, song-writer and guitarist Jason Wade, drummer Rick Woolstenhulme, and bassist and background vocalist Bryce Soderberg.

The Sound

With their catchy melodies and fresh rock/pop sound, the band has drawn many fans. Although some songs border on alternative or harder rock, their signature sound is dynamic, soulful, and chorus-driven -- edgy but not too hard -- allowing them to appeal to a broad audience.

Genre Controversy

The band's genre has caused some questioning and controversy. Their debut album includes a track titled "Everything," which is lyrically concerned with the subject of God's love. Lead singer Jason Wade considers himself a Christian, and the band's roots stem from worship music. The lead singer shies away from the band being labeled a Christian band, however, due to the issues many people have with organized religion today.

The lyrics of later songs, such as First Time, also illustrate a move towards more secular topics, so the band is more appropriately categorized as a crossover band resting in the pop/rock/alternative rock genres.

About Lifehouse First Time

The Lifehouse love song hit First Time appeals to a mainstream audience. The song is based on feeling alive in love, and appears to discuss the new life that's emerged in a hurting relationship. The man in the song is letting go and is apparently allowing himself to fall in love without reservation - it's a love song with an edgy melody and melancholy touch. What do fans love about this song?

  • The rich sound
  • Soulful, easy-to-relate-to lyrics
  • The highly original music video for the song

Lifehouse will perform the song live on Fox's Live New Year's Eve for 2007.

For fans of some of the band's more spiritually-infused songs, however, First Time may pose some problems. Although the lyrics don't blatantly discuss sexual activity, it does hint at it with the words "Maybe I'm wrong, I'm feeling right/ Whenever I'm alone with you tonight." The video of the song also suggests this with the beach scene.

First Time Cover Contest

Lifehouse has also sponsored a First Time cover contest for musicians, which you can view on YouTube. Although the prize package isn't detailed, it claims it will be 'colossal' for the lucky winner who covers this song. Fans vote for the top ten, and the band will choose a winner from among them.
