She had a brief brush with fame when a U.S. record executive at Sony heard a version of the Minnie Riperton classic Lovin You. Sony actually flew her to the U.S. for a round of meetings, but in the end, she returned to the UK without a contract. Lewis was ready to give up on her music career for college, but she decided to give things one last try when an audition opportunity for X Factor came up.

Lewis was an early favorite to win the competition and she continued to wow the judges week in and week out. The show, which matches contestants up with one of the judges, who then mentors them and guides them through the competition, matched Lewis up with Simon Cowell. Cowell immediately saw her potential and continued to mentor her and sing her praises long after the show completed taping – an unusual twist for Cowell.

Since winning X Factor, Lewis has completed a successful world tour and made many high profile performances. Her third single, Miss Glass, written by R. City is pending at the time of writing.
