About The Jonas Brothers
Every tween generation needs their poster boy heroes, and in the early 2000s, that title was owned by the Jonas Brothers. Although three brothers make up the band, they all owe their big chance to youngest brother Nick Jonas and a little bit of barber shop belting it out. Nick was discovered at the ripe old age of six while he was singing in a local barber shop. A manager signed him up and got him straight to Broadway, where he performed in a variety of musicals, including Beauty and The Beast, A Christmas Carol and Annie Get Your Gun.
It was during his stint in Beauty and The Beast that Nick made the move from Broadway artist to recording artist. With the help of the Beauty and The Beast cast, Nick recorded a song he co-wrote with his father, Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer). The song became a Christian radio hit, and soon Columbia Records was knocking on the door. Nick recorded a Christian album, but the label wasn’t pleased with the output. They did, however, like his voice, and they liked the way he sounded performing with his brothers, who were guests on the album. So, plan B was put into action and the Jonas Brothers was born.
The Jonas Brothers’ deal with Columbia/Sony only lasted for two years. The label declined to invest heavily in band promotion, and so the relationship was contentious from the start. Eventually, in 2007, the boys were dropped from their Columbia deal. They were soon picked up by Hollywood Records, which is a division of Disney.
The key to breaking the Jonas Brothers was the support they received from the Disney Channel. They made an appearance on the uber popular Hannah Montana and eventually went on to get their own full length Disney feature film, Camp Rock. Their Disney Channel work helped cement theme as bona fide superstars of the tween set.
The Jonas Brothers are also known for their commitment to abstaining from drinking and drugs and for wearing purity rings. Like fellow musician Jordin Sparks, they are all evangelical Christians and are very vocal about their faith.
