The JetAudio iAudio U2 is a small flash-based digital music player. It was introduced in July of 2004 and was one of the smallest on the market at the time.
About the iAudio U2
The iAudio U2 flash-based digital music player has a simple design, simple interface and loads of cool features. It has a 4-line monochrome screen that displays plenty of information including the time and date. Surf through your music with the handy directional nub that skips tracks and adjust the volume with the flick of a thumb.
The U2 connects to your computer using the included USB cable. Installation software is included and works with Windows 98 and up, MacOS and Linux. Unless you buy the optional wall adapter you'll need to charge your U2 by plugging it into your computer.
Loading files onto the U2 is a simple affair. The player installs as a removable drive on your computer, so all you have to do is open it like a hard drive, then drag and drop your songs into the player. In fact, the iAudio U2 can carry other types of files, so it doubles as an emergency USB flash drive. Not a bad bonus.
The iAudio U2 comes in three capacities: 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB. Unless you're a music pack rat these storage sizes are more than adequate. There are a number of unique colors for the U2 as well, such as a cool ocean blue or fiery red. If you keep the included protector case on at all times, these great colors are unfortunately hidden by the drab black. Function over form.
Battery life on the U2 is quite high: 20 hours for a full charge. It takes just an hour or two go to from no charge to full, so you're ready to go in no time.
Other extra features on the U2 include an FM radio tuner and voice recorder. You can also record directly from FM radio. A robust sound equalizer system lets you customize how you hear your music to your liking, even add tons of bass for the rocker within.
iAudio U2 Opinions
bard - Before I bought my first digital music player, I did a lot of research. I wanted something inexpensive, something that wouldn't skip when I work out, and something that would allow me to drag and drop my music without using clunky and bloated software. I found the iAudio U2 and have been very happy with the results!
I've had my U2 for a little over a year and it's been the perfect portable music player. It's met everyone of my expectations as a straightforward and easy-to-use music player. It holds more than enough music for me and I take it everywhere I go. It's always in its protective case and hasn't suffered a scratch since I bought it!
Without a doubt, the best feature of the iAudio U2 is its compact size. Only slightly larger than two packs of gum and about the same weight, I barely even realized I was carrying it. I could even let it dangle from the ear buds while listening to music! And because it's a flash player, no amount of shaking or jarring will make it skip.
The only problem I've had is with an occasional bug in the firmware. It happens maybe once a month, but I'll be listening to a song, change tracks and the player abruptly shuts down. All I have to do is turn it back on, but it can be annoying. Still, it doesn't happen very often, so it's a minor complaint.
In the end, I think the U2 is a great digital music player for anyone to own. It's small, light, inexpensive, easy to use and can withstand a good amount of wear and tear.
