Born April 29, 1987, Jesse McCartney has carved out a career for himself in film, TV and music. He started his entertainment career on the stage, in a nationally touring production of The King and I. A role on the soap opera All My Children soon followed. McCartney played Alan Chandler, Jr. on that show, and during his three year stint, he earned a Daytime Emmy nomination. McCartney’s first full length solo record, called Beautiful Soul, was released in 2004. Unusually, it took a full two years to complete, but it proved to be time well spent. The album established McCartney as an MTV Total Request Live favorite, and although this was before the time that music download sales counted towards the music chart, the songs from the album ranked highly on popular music downloading sites like AOL Music and Yahoo Music.

McCartney toured extensively to back up the release of Beautiful Soul in the U.S., Europe and Australia with other well known pop artists, including the Backstreet Boys. He also released a DVD of a California concert in November 2005.

McCartney followed up his debut album in 2006 with Right Where You Want Me. This album was less of a commercial success than the first album, and his label, Hollywood Records, refused to pledge money for tour support. The album also marked a less pop direction musically for McCartney, which received a lukewarm reception from his fans.

In 2008, McCartney released a new album, Departure. He toured with Jordin Sparks to promote the album, and he also did a small string of solo shows in smaller venues. Sales did not match his debut release, but it sold respectably well.

In recent years, songwriting has been McCartney’s bread and butter. Most notably, he co-wrote Leona Lewis’ megahit song Bleeding Love with Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.
