About Ice Cube
Ice Cube, also known as O’Shea Jackson, is one of the grandfathers of hip hop music and continues to be one of its most influential stars. He was a founding member of one of hip hop’s first and most legendary groups, N.W.A., along with Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, The D.O.C., and MC Ren. N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton album is one of rap’s quintessential albums, marking the beginning the West Coast sound and gangsta rap.
In 1990, after a series of financial disputes, Ice Cube left N.W.A. and released a solo album, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted. Though the album was controversial at the time of its release, it is now considered a rap classic and another landmark moment in the birth of the gangsta rap movement which would so influence hip hop in the 1990s and beyond.
Ice Cube is also a respected actor and has appeared in several films, such as Boyz N the Hood, Higher Learning, Anaconda, and the Friday series.
