How High Soundtrack

The How High soundtrack is loved by both hip hop fans and fans of the movie who were introduced to the artists through the film. Hip hop stars Method Man and Redman are the stars of the movie, and they feature prominently on the How High soundtrack. They also helped pick the other tracks to round out the collection.

About How High

As a film, How High isn’t likely to top any list of arthouse classics, but it is considered to be a gold standard example of its genre – the so-called stoner movie. In fact, Entertainment Weekly rated the film at number three in its ranking of the Top Ten Best Stoner Movies.

As you might imagine, the plot is centered around the lives of two dedicated stoners, Silas P. Silas (Method Man) and Jamal King (Redman). When one of their friends, Ivory, dies, they decide to use his ashes as fertilizer to grow marijuana. They then take that marijuana with them as they go to take their “THC” exams (a play on the cannabis element of marijuana but said to stand for Testing for Higher Credentials in the film). The THC exams are college entrance exams.

Ivory’s ghost comes to them when they smoke the marijuana from the batch that was fertilized with his ashes, and he gives Silas and Jamal all of the answers to the THC exams. Their perfect scores gain the two entrance into Harvard. They manage to stay ahead of the curve at Harvard as long as they smoke the marijuana grown from Ivory’s ashes, but when that is stolen and smoked by another student, they fall behind. The smoke the ashes of John Quincy Adams, but that does not have the same effect. They are kicked out of Harvard, and the ghost of Ivory and the ghost of Benjamin Franklin appeal the admissions board on their behalf.

Despite the somewhat bizarre storyline, How High has gained cult classic status, and a sequel to the film is rumored to be planned for 2009.
