About Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy is a household name these days and one of the most popular bands on the charts. Fall Out Boy songwriter/backup singer/bassist Pete Wentz is also a tabloid staple, thanks to his relationship with Ashlee Simpson, and he has also embarked on several non musical ventures, like modeling and designing his own clothing line. Fall Out Boy didn’t find overnight success, however – it was a long, hard road fighting to the top.
The band got together in 2001 in the Chicago area and became staples on the Chicago live music circuit. A self released EP followed in 2002, which earned them a deal with indie label Uprising Records. After releasing two EPs with Uprising, the band went on to sign with fellow indie label Fueled by Ramen, with whom they released their first full length album, Take This To Your Grave, in 2003. Despite the fact that Take This To Your Grave was released on an indie, the majors were already sniffing around – Island Records offered financing for the recording of the album in exchange for first option rights on Fall Out Boy’s next release.
Island did exercise that option, and in 2005, Fall Out Boy released their first major album, From Under the Cork Tree. This is the album that really catapulted Fall Out Boy to mainstream success, which was helped in no small part by a major push on MTV and the use of Fall Out Boy songs in many popular teen TV shows, like Dawson’s Creek and The O.C. This album also earned them several MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy for best new artist. The 2007 release Infinity on High has pushed the popularity of Fall Out Boy even higher, and the album’s first single, This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race, saw the band make serious in roads in the UK charts as well.
