American music from the 1950s and early 1960s was the golden age of doo wop music, but that doesn’t mean that the style has faded away. Some modern pop and R&B music, namely so-called “boy bands,” are loosely developed around a doo wop group framework. More traditional doo wop groups still survive as well, though you have to delve a little bit beyond the beaten track to find them. Barber shop quartets and a cappella groups are common modern day equivalents of 1950s doo wop groups.
