From LoveToKnow Music

The Ciara biography tells the story of a singer, songwriter and model who has grown to become one of the biggest names in pop music. Ciara rose to fame in the mid 2000s and became as well known for her modeling as for her music.

Ciara Biography – The Early Years

Ciara was born Ciara Princess Harris in Austin, Texas, on October 25, 1985. As a young girl, she was an “army brat." Her father was in the military, and she moved around the world with her family, living on various Army bases, including a stint in Germany.

By the time she was a teenager, Ciara’s father had left the military and her family settled in Atlanta. It was also during this time that Ciara decided she wanted to pursue a career in music. After watching a performance by Destiny’s Child, Ciara decided to form an all girl singing group called Hearsay. The girls worked together to record some demos, but eventually they had creative differences and the group disbanded. Ciara focused on writing songs and was lucky enough to meet producer Jazze Pha. Jazze Pha helped Ciara learn the music industry and went on to help her land a deal with Atlanta based label LaFace Records.

Ciara Biography – Debut Album and Music Industry Success

In 2004, Ciara released her debut album on LaFace Records, called Goodies. Goodies featured guest appearances by Missy Elliot and Ludacris. The first single from the album, the title track, went to number one in the music charts in the US and the UK. Her follow up singles each reached number two.

In the wake of the success of Goodies, Ciara was invited to join Gwen Stefani on tour. She was also nominated for several Grammys for her work on Goodies, including for best music video and best rap album.

Ciara followed up her debut release in 2006 with The Evolution. She co-wrote most of the songs on the album, and she also co-produced many of them. The album featured guest appearances by will.i.am, Pharrell, Bryan Michael Cox, and many others. The first single for the album, Like a Boy, failed to make the splash her previous released had, but it reached a respectable number 19 on the charts.

During this time, Ciara also became the spokesperson and model for Jay-Z’s Rocawear line of clothing for women. Her sales took off as well, and at the 2007 World Music Awards, she won the award for Best Selling Female R&B artist.

In 2008, Ciara came back with a new album, Fantasy Ride. The release date of the album got pushed back several times, much to the disappointment of her fans, but when it finally hit the shelves, it proved to be a big hit. During this time, Ciara also did guest appearances on many other albums. She was honored by Billboard Magazine in 2008 as Woman of the Year for all of the progress she has made in the music industry.

Ciara Biography – Modeling

At the same time as she was building her music career, Ciara was also establishing herself as a model. She signed a representation deal with the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency, who has been successful in finding her work. She also has made independent deals with individual clothing lines to be their representative, including Sarah Jessica Parker’s clothing line Bitten. She was working with former New York Knicks player and current Boston Celtics player Stephon Marbury to create a low cost clothing line for women called Starbury. As the clothing line was in development, the backers were forced to file for bankruptcy, and the idea shelved. Ciara is said to be now be working on her own clothing line.

Her modeling became an issue in 2008 when pictures that appeared to show her posing naked with 50 Cent hit the internet. Ciara claimed that she was clothed when the photo was taken and that Vibe magazine had airbrushed her clothing out of the picture.
