Federline, the notoriously disliked man who left his pregnant girlfriend behind to jet off to Europe on tour with Spears, soon became Mr. Britney Spears, to the shock and horror of many of her fans. The post Federline Spears never seemed to be the same, and many photo scandals, public blow ups, one much maligned album from Federline and two kids later, Spears gave Federline his walking papers. Those who expected a return to form by Spears were instead shocked to witness an increasing catalog of bizarre and dangerous behavior played out in real time, thanks to the paparazzi.

But then, there was Gimme More. Spears took to the stage to open the 2007 Video Music Awards with this song, the first single from what was purported to be her big come back album. The results were nothing short of disastrous. Out of shape, out of step and quite possibly a little bit out of her mind (or at least of altered mind), Spears shuffled through a cringe worthy performance that earned her nothing but bemused applause from the audience and weeks of ridicule in the media.

Oddly enough, the popularity of Gimme More was sealed. The popularity of the song might not have come from the reason Spears had hoped (though in the midst of all of the hub-bub, most reviewers argued that the song was actually remarkably good), but it nonetheless was one of the most swapped and downloaded songs on the net.
