About Beyonce
Beyonce Knowles was born on September 4th, 1981 in Houston, Texas. From an early age, Beyonce seemed destined for a career in the spotlight as she was the child of Matthew Knowles (a recording manager) and his costume designing wife, Tina. As someone who always enjoyed singing and performing, she enrolled in performing arts schools such as the Parker Elementary School, where she performed in the choir. She was also rather active in the local church, St. John's United Methodist Church.
Destiny's Child
Beyonce often auditioned for singing roles and was placed into a group that was originally named Girl's Tyme at the age of 8. The girls in the group met with producer Arne Frager who wanted the girl to win on Star Search. While the girls went on to lose on Star Search, the group continued on past the loss and opened for other more popular R&B groups of the time in concert.
In 1993, the group changed their name to Destiny's Child and signed to Columbia Records. They also recorded a song for the Men In Black movie soundtrack. The group also released their solo album the same year featuring No, No, No. In 1999, the group released The Writing On The Wall feating Bills, Bills, Bills, Jumpin, Jumpin, and Say My Name. The band is most well known for these tracks. Their third album as titled Survivor featured Survivor, and Bootylicious.
Soon after their third album, the group released a holiday album and decided to go on a hiatus. During this time period, Beyonce signed to Columbia as a solo artist.
