The All American Rejects History

Like many small town kids, friends Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler were less than excited about what their town of Stillwater, Oklahoma had to offer as far as entertainment was concerned. The two found a way to entertain themselves by forming The All American Rejects while they were still in high school. In the beginning, it was just a two man band with Ritter on vocals and bass and Wheeler handling the guitar and programming. Programming? Well, being short a drum player, the two used pre-programmed drum loops and rhythm tracks.

Debut Album

The All American Rejects released their first album Same Girl, New Songs on indie label Doghouse in 2001 when Ritter was 17 and Wheeler was 18. A year later, they released their self-titled album that scored a top ten hit with Swing, Swing. The song from this album was so wildly popular some thought The All American Rejects were destined to be a "one-hit wonder." This would not end up being the case.

Platinum Success

In 2002, the Rejects welcomed Mike Kennerty on the guitar and Chris Taylor on the drums. With the addition of the two new members, the band completed its second album Move Along in 2005 on the Dreamworks record label. All whispers of the Rejects being a "one-hit wonder" stopped as Move Along became a certified Platinum album two times over. The fans obviously responded to The All American Rejects singles like Dirty Little Secret, Move Aong and It Ends Tonight, by buying up CD's and downloading them onto MP3 players in droves.
